The oldest café in Shimla, the Indian Coffee House hasn’t changed a bit in the four plus decades that it has been part of Shimla's cafe scene. Always crowded, despite the many interesting options in the Mall Road area, Indian Coffee House retains its old world charm and a visit is sure to bring in nostalgia of times past.
Whatever the food, a hot cup of steaming filter coffee is a must-have. The south-Indian snacks especially the Masala Dosa and the Sambhar Idli are delicious in Shimla's cool climate. A unique innovation of the place is its Mutton Dosa with a mix of minced mutton and onion masala stuffing, which tastes good with or without a serving of sambhar.
The Indian Coffee House is an ideal place for a good chat over coffee, or to just hang out after a stroll around the Mall, Shimla. It's a great stop for light evening snacks too. A mildly spicy vegetable cutlet or a mutton cutlet can be enjoyed with a cup of coffee or chai or maybe just a simple French toast with an omelet or crunchy fried finger chips.
