If coming from Koramangala side, with Koramangala 1st block on your left, head straight on the Jakkasandra road passing Barbeque Nation on your left. Turn right at the traffic signal and continue up that road for about 1.2km with Agara lake on your left and passing Greenview Medical Centre on your right until you reach BDA Complex on your right (and KFC on your left). Head straight on this road for another 200m and take the first right at MC Donalds (now on your left). Turn left after about 100m. 99 Variety Dosa is on this (9th main) Road.
99 Variety Dosa in HSR Layout dish up well prepared dosas. Although the name is 99 Variety Dosa, Venkatesh Das says they can even make around 200 varieties. They are very generous with the ingredients and state happily that they don't do 'kanjoosi' even when it comes to things like butter and cheese even so that customers often ask them to go easy on the butter. He is also very proud of the fact that he uses Amul butter and Nandini Paneer. The fastest selling items in the menu are Mysore masala dosa (which is quite different from the usual one), Paneer, Mushroom and Pav bhaji dosas. Venkatesh Das is originally from Mandya, Karnataka, and started this stall 6 years ago after working as a tailor, then in a similar stall with his uncle. When he felt he needed more money and wanted to do something on his own, his uncle, Padma Prakash and friend, Manjappa supported him immensely. He has only one stall with 6 round coal-fired surfaces to make dosas on. Although his motivation to open the stall was the money, his happiness comes from generously feeding his customers and seeing them satisfied and happy. He is very happy with only dosas and does not plan to introduce any other items.
  • Dosas are made on 6 coal-fired stoves. A pleasing sight to see.
  • Very generous with toppings.
  • The Dosas can get heavy as they are loaded with butter.
  • There is no menu on display but if you ask them, they will rattle it out to you in less than a minute.
