Amaravathi Restaurant started its operations in 1980 on Cathedral Road and is arguably one of the most popular restaurants in Chennai serving authentic Andhra cuisine. Andhra cuisine is a mix of South Indian and Deccan region and is known to be the spiciest of Indian cuisine. The cuisine that is served here has both vegetarian and non-vegetarian signature dishes which are spicy and unique in taste. The spicy chutneys and pickles of Andhra, especially the mango and shrimps are the all-time favorites. The restaurant has some of the best signature dishes like Amaravathi Chilli Chicken, Nellore Chapala Pulusu (fish curry with roasted chicken), Mutton Gongura and Mango Prawns Curry. As the tradition goes, all meals at Amaravathi are served on banana leaves.
