Murugan Idli Shop was started in the 90s to cook authentic vegetarian South-Indian tiffin cuisines. The shop that was started by S. Manoharan's parents was first named Murugan Coffee Nilayam in Madurai. In 2003, he named the restaurant as Murugan idli Shop and in 2008, Murugan Idli Shop opened a branch in Singapore that is strategically located in Little India. It is well-known for serving Idlis, Sakkare Pongal, Dosas and a variety of chutneys. Idlis are prepared in the traditional Chettinad way with a selected variety of dal and rice in which the batter is left to ferment for at least 10 hours. The idlis are fluffy and soak in the Sambhar. One must also try their Jigarthanda- an interesting dessert which originates in Madurai and a good way to cool-off the Chennai heat and your hearty meal at Murugan. Visit Sangeetha as well to help settle the debate on which of these serves the best tiffin in Chennai.
