Sri Venkateshwara Sweet Meat Shop, Bangalore
THE STORY
A decades old shop that started on Rangaswamy Temple Street in 1954 and moved to Balepet Main Road near Chickpet in 1972. Started by Mr.V A. Venkatachalapathy Setty, this chain with three stores, serves among the most sought after Mysore Pak and Dumroot in the city. Mr.Setty at the age of 16 used to sell sweets and spicy mixtures at temple festivals and jatres in and around Chikkabalapur. Dumroot is a fine baked cake made with ash gourd. This baked sweet is made by covering the cake mix with a plantain leaf, putting it in a copper vessel and roasting on top and then at the bottom with a layer of halwa sandwiched in between.
